Fairfield ISD celebrated a historic milestone on Friday, September 18, 2026, with the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fairfield High School.

Students, staff, Board of Trustees members, community leaders, and project partners gathered to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter for Fairfield ISD. The new high school, scheduled to open in August 2028, will provide modern learning environments, expanded educational opportunities, and new spaces designed to serve generations of Fairfield Eagles.

A Vision Years in the Making

The journey toward a new Fairfield High School began on August 29, 2024, when approximately 20 individuals gathered for the first facilities committee meeting to evaluate the district's needs.

Over the following months, the committee, which included staff, community members, parents, students, and Board of Trustees representatives, met five times before recommending a bond proposal that included a new high school, safety improvements at Fairfield Elementary, and improvements at Fairfield Junior High and Fairfield Intermediate.

In May 2025, Fairfield ISD voters approved the $105.5 million bond proposal, with approximately 64% voting in favor.

A little more than two years after the first facilities committee meeting, the district celebrated the groundbreaking of its new high school.

A School Designed for the Future

The new Fairfield High School will be a state-of-the-art facility designed to go beyond traditional academics. With expanded agricultural science facilities, new Career and Technical Education programs, modern classrooms, new band facilities, and a performing arts center, the campus will provide opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, and explore their interests.

Designed with a collegiate atmosphere, the new campus will encourage collaboration, provide flexibility for future growth, and support student success.

The school's design also reflects the importance of Fairfield's history, traditions, and community identity. It will honor FHS alumni while providing future graduates with new opportunities to build upon the school's legacy.

As Fairfield High School Principal Sonya Gibson shared during the ceremony, “Today, we are not just breaking ground on a new building—we are breaking ground on a new chapter in the history of FHS.”

Celebrating a Community Milestone

The ceremony featured remarks from Fairfield ISD Superintendent Joe Craig, Board of Trustees President Kevin Benedict, Fairfield High School Principal Sonya Gibson, Jeffrey Floyd of Claycomb Associates, Architects, and Bradley Dorer of Pogue Construction.

Following the remarks, attendees gathered for the ceremonial groundbreaking and group photographs to commemorate the occasion.

Fairfield ISD extends a special thank you to its Board of Trustees for their leadership and commitment to the future of the district: President Kevin Benedict, Vice President John Fryer, Secretary Kim Whitaker, Eric Chavers, Ashlee Daniel, Penny Meredith, and Jeff Wright.

The district is also grateful to Claycomb Associates, Architects, and Pogue Construction for their partnership in bringing this vision to life. Kimley-Horn is providing civil engineering services for the project.

Most importantly, Fairfield ISD thanks the community for its continued support and investment in generations of Fairfield Eagles to come.

Looking Ahead to August 2028

As construction progresses, Fairfield ISD looks forward to sharing updates and celebrating additional milestones with the community.

A beam-signing event is planned for fall 2027, giving students and staff the opportunity to sign their names on a structural beam before it is installed in the building.

Once construction is completed, Fairfield ISD plans to host student-led community tours in August 2028, allowing families, alumni, and community members to explore the new campus before it opens.
